Happy New Year!
As many of you know, we have had a challenging year and a year full of change. We have A LOT of new updates for 2023 and the upcoming tax season and A LOT of detailed information to share. It will take some time to go through it all (& digest it all) – so thank you in advance for taking the time to do so.
Below is a series of videos. Each one also has a transcript available for download if you prefer reading to watching/listening. Please note the transcript was done by an automated system (a computer, not a human), so it is imperfect.
Here’s an overview of what to expect with each video:
General firm update – I’ve been getting a lot of clients asking how things are going with my health, our team, and all of our firm transition (thank you for caring!). Here’s a brief update – and an overview of what to expect in the other videos. (Edited to add: Based on a few questions coming in, I want to clarify that identifying the three core types of clients we are focusing on moving forward are the types of NEW clients we are accepting. This is not intended to be an indirect way to tell any existing clients we cannot serve you. If I ever see a shift in our business or a client’s needs that become a mismatch, I will communicate with any affected clients directly.)

New Portal system – We have a NEW secure online portal for our clients. Optionally, you can also use a mobile app to access the system. It will be used to consolidate documents, e-signing, communications, and more, all in one place.

New “Worry Free” Client Care Package – For the first time ever, we are offering tax notice, audit, and identity theft protection. I didn’t see a need to offer this in the past, but given the new funding to the IRS, I think it’s time.

New tools to verify your bookkeeping is ready – Every year we receive QuickBooks files that aren’t ready for tax preparation. We will ask you if your books are ready, but how do you know? We have a new checklist for the most common, easy to spot (even with no accounting knowledge) red flags that indicate your books are not ready.
Our full blog post on these tools, including video demo, can be found here
New timelines for Q&A with us – We are implementing timelines for handling Q&A items with you in the tax preparation process to ensure a smooth flowing tax preparation process and on-time filing.

New Intake due dates – We are staggering our intake due dates – the date we need all of your tax info may be different than last year.

New 1099-K forms – Two days after I shot this video, the IRS said they are pushing back this requirement by 1 year. However, some companies are “practicing” this year and issuing these forms under the new rules, so watch for them (and watch this video to understand why).

Thank you for the opportunity to serve you. I appreciate your trust and confidence in our team. It is truly an honor to be of service.
